Yerevan, Baku and Tbilisi to Start Talks on Arranging Action Plan with EU Concurrently

PanARMENIAN.Net - All three South Caucasus states will start negotiations on arranging the Action Plans within the European Neighborhood Policy concurrently, EU special envoy for South Caucasus Heikki Talvitie said in a statement during a news conference in Baku January 27. According to him, although the core of the Action Plans will differ, there is hope that all three states will be able to complete consultations over them and sign relevant agreements with EU concurrently. As for the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Talvitie noted the EU is ready to assist the parties to conflict as far as possible in case a peace accord is attained. "The EU has already stated its readiness to spend its resources to that end. The Prague process continues and there is still certain optimism. However, the presence of unsolved problems cannot be ignored," he remarked.

In regard to the opening of the Turkish-Armenian borderHeikki Talvitie stated, for the moment the issue is exclusively within the competence of the Turkish government. "I understand that the issue is linked with the Karabakh problem settlement and the tension in relations between Armenia and Turkey. However, I can note EU is interested in the development of regional projects and integration of all South Caucasus states into Europe", he said. He noted his current visit to the region is the last one and the next special envoy will be announced based on consultations that still continue in Brussels, reported Trend agency.
