Presently Karabakh's Participation Will Impede Talks

PanARMENIAN.Net - Various principles can be put into the basis of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement including those mentioned by OSCE Minsk Group Bernard Fassier: the principle of territorial integrity and right to self-determination of peoples. In the opinion of political scientist Alexander Iskandaryan, the point is not the principles but the balance of forces. "Everything rests on military, military-political and economic apportionment. Armenia always has Nagorno Karabakh on the scales, Azerbaijan doesn't have it," Iskandaryan told PanARMENIAN.Net reporter. He considers that it's not correct to draw parallels between different conflicts. "Eritrea, Bangladesh, Kosovo - everything is quite different now. Now we have to speak of referendum. I suppose of the parties come to any agreement the outcomes of the referendum will be admitted by the international community despite everything," he noted.



When speaking of participation of Karabakh's delegation in the negotiations, Iskandaryan noted that at the current stage it will only impede the process, since presently a mere imitation of talks is taking place. "If these were real talks, Karabakh's participation would be necessary. Now it is premature," the Armenian political scientist said.
