Oskanian: War between Armenia and Azerbaijan in 2006 Ruled out

PanARMENIAN.Net - War between Armenia and Azerbaijan in 2006 is not possible, Armenian FM Vartan Oskanian stated when answering questions of Azg Daily readers. In his words, Azerbaijan today Azerbaijan cannot take the risk of the necessary compromises even in the political aspect. "They have rather serious expectations in exchange. They have experienced the war. They made two attempts and they know its bitter consequences. Thus, in my opinion, war in 2006 is ruled out. In general, it is Azerbaijan, firstly, would have difficulties in making that decision, secondly, the international community will not admit it," the Armenian FM said. As of the tense situation at the Armenian-Azeri border, Oskanian stated, "This is old news. It happens often and I would not like to link it with political processes. In any case, we should wait and see what is the continuation."

Answering a question owing to which reason the Armenian MFA does not work for the international community's recognition of the referendum in the Nagorno Karabakh Republic in 1991 and its returns, the Armenian FM remarked, "Today the issue of self-determination of the NKR is on the agenda. It is a positive shift and we find ourselves in rather favorable conditions from the diplomatic point of view. Today we should focus on fixing and exercising that right exactly."
