U.S. Co-chair: we remain committed to OSCE Minsk Group format

PanARMENIAN.Net - The U.S. Co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group James Warlick left for Turkey February 17.

“Leaving today for Ankara. I look forward to hearing Turkey's views,” he tweeted.

Upon completion of the meeting with the country’s leadership, he posted, “It was useful to hear Turkish Govt views on regional issues, including Nagorno Karabakh. We remain committed to the Minsk Group co-chair format.”

In his February 13 Twitter post, Warlick said, "Greek and Turkish Cypriots announced they will have full-fledged negotiations on a settlement. Why can't this happen for Nagorno Karabakh?"

The NKR foreign ministry replied to the post as follows "We agree that it's high time for restoration of full-fledged negotiations with direct participation of Nagorno Karabakh."

“The Nagorno Karabakh conflict is not only Baku’s but Ankara’s problem as well,” Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said last year.

As Erdogan stated at the meeting with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev, “being a priority on our foreign policy agenda, the issue is a crucial one in the context of provision of peace in South Caucasus.”

“Our unconditional support for Azerbaijan in the peaceful negotiated settlement of the conflict will continue,” the Prime Minister said, noting the OSCE Minsk Group as a responsible party in the success of the process.

“U.S., Russia and France must keep the issue in the focus of their attention. Turkey’s possible contribution to peace process was also discussed,” he said.
