Karabakh confirms death of six more Azerbaijani troops

PanARMENIAN.Net - Nagorno Karabakh Defense Army issued a statement saying that six more Azerbaijani soldiers were killed besides the earlier reported three.

Despite the losses, Azerbaijan continued the shelling: 110 ceasefire violations were registered on September 28-29, with over 1600 shots fired from various caliber weapons, including 60-, 82-, and 120-mm mortars, AGS-17 grenade launchers, as well as Turkish-made TR-107 rocket launchers.

Karabakh armed forces took retaliatory measures and continue controlling the situation.

Earlier, Baku confirmed the death of three soldiers in different parts of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the line of contact between Karabakh and Azerbaijan as a result of retaliation by Armenian forces for Azeri shelling of peaceful villages, APA reports citing the country’s Defense Ministry.

Nagoro Karabakh Defense army reported, in turn, that around a dozen Azerbaijani soldiers were killed and wounded near Akna (previously Aghdam), with no casualties reported on the Armenian side.

Azerbaijani Defense Ministry confirmed the losses only after the information leaked into social networks. Azerbaijani official agencies often do not report casualties, with posts by opposition journalists or the victims’ relatives revealing the truth.

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.
