ICRC reps visit Armenian citizen who crossed border to AzerbaijanNovember 12, 2015 - 12:01 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Baku office met Wednesday, November 11, with the 76-year-old Armenian woman who had crossed the border to Azerbaijan and been immediately detained by local servicemen, an ICRC Armenian branch representative said, according to Panorama.am. “Our colleagues met with Lusik Abovyan in Baku, assessed her health condition and the way she was being treated,” Zara Amatuni said. She, however, refrained from commenting on the results of the visit, in view of the fact that ICRC doesn’t publicize its activities. The Mission conducts negotiations on the issue of the Armenian citizen’s repatriation with the authorities of the two countries. Baku Defense Ministry issued a statement on November 9, suggesting an Armenian citizen has crossed the border to Azerbaijan. Lusik Abovyan, 73, was reported to have crossed the border. “The woman will be transferred to the Armenian side after appropriate measures are taken,” the Ministry said in a statement. As the chief of the village of Koti in Armenia’s Tavush province, Felix Melikyan told PanARMENAIN.Net, search for Lusik Abovyan started on midday and no news transpired since.
