LED street lighting systems installed in Armenia border villagesNovember 24, 2015 - 12:37 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) and VivaCell-MTS have once again collaborated for the benefit of rural communities in Armenia. In the framework of the Alternative Energy Project, a street lighting system with 37 LED lights has been installed in border villages of Gnishik and Mozrov in Vayots Dzor province, just 1 km away from Nakhijevan border. VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian, FPWC Founder Ruben Khachatryan, Head of Gnishik community Ara Levonyan and community residents attended the event. With a population of 250, Gnishik community includes Mozrov and Gnishik villages and is known for its rich historical and cultural heritage and unique nature. Despite the significance of the location as a tourist and cultural center, part of the community had never had street lighting, with the other part bereft of outdoor lighting for around 30 years. The environmentally friendly and energy-efficient LED lights will reduce energy costs by up to 80%. Outdoor lighting will be provided from 10:00 pm to 1:00 am in summer, from 6:30 pm to 12:00 am in winter, and all night long on holidays. LED bulbs are efficient and durable, lasting much longer than the regular ones. Addressing the audience, Yirikian said the project aims to make the border village residents' lives more comfortable. The FPWC and VivaCell-MTS welcome the use of latest technologies in environment protection initiatives, promoting nature conservation, energy efficiency and community development.
