Police refute news of shots fired at Armenian polling stationDecember 6, 2015 - 17:48 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia’s police have refuted news of shots fired at a polling station. As some media reports claim, one of the voters said an unknown person has opened fire from a pistol on entering a Yerevan-based polling station, causing people to leave the building in panic. The police, however, issued a statement, denying any such incident has been registered in any of the polling stations across Yerevan or Armenia’s provinces. Also, the police called on media outlets and individuals to publicize official information only. Armenia is voting on amendments to Constitution today, December 6. 1997 polling stations opened across the republic at 8 am local time, set to close at 8 pm. The total number of voters is 2 550 323. The amended version of the Constitution would increase the role of the National Assembly, government and Prime Minister and essentially curtail the president's powers. Other changes include elimination of majoritarian voting system and full transition to proportional system of forming a parliament.
