Government allots $150.000 for holding WCIT 2019 in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - The government decided on Thursday, March 10 to allocate some $150.000 to the Ministry of Economy for organizing the World Conference on International Telecommunications (WCIT) 2019 in Armenia. The money will be used to cover the guarantee deposit to the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA).

According to the draft decision, the Conference will boost Armenia’s cooperation with international structures and leading tech companies, unveil the country’s capabilities and achievements in IT sector, attract foreign investments, while promoting expansion of export markets for local companies’ IT products, solutions and services.

The WCIT 2019 is expected to host some 2000-2500 delegates from over 800 countries worldwide.

The Conference has been held once every two years since 1978, with top officials from public IT sector, heads of supranational organizations, universities and think tanks and NGO representatives participating.

Since 2000, the event has been convened in Taiwan, Australia, Greece, U.S., Malaysia, the Netherlands, Canada and Mexico.
