VivaCell-MTS supports mini-football championship in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian media’s 7th Mini-football Championship, aimed to promote healthy lifestyle and popularize football, kicked off at Dynamo Sports Complex.

The Chairman of the Association of Foreign Correspondents Tigran Hovhannisyan, football veteran and Honored Coach of Armenia Semyon Israelian and First Vice-President of the Dynamo Sports Public Organization, Head of Police Military and Physical Fitness Unit, Police Colonel Garnik Hayrapetyan greeted the competition participants. The address of Armenia's Sport and Youth Affairs Minister Gabriel Ghazaryan was read to the participants.

The championship was organized by the Association of the Foreign Correspondents, with VivaCell-MTS as the General Partner of the competition. Also, the Coca-Cola Hellenic Armenia supported the event by providing drinks for the players. Teams of eight media outlets participated in the championship.

Grouped in two, the teams will play against each other in a round-robin tournament. Two teams with the best scores from each group will play in the semi-final, with the winners set to compete in the final. The teams will also battle for the third place.

The closing ceremony of the championship is slated for May 10. The winner will be awarded with the VivaCell-MTS-2016 cup, diplomas and medals. Teams to gain the second and third spots will also be awarded. The Association of Foreign Correspondents will also reward players that showed good results in one of the 10 nominations – best goalkeeper, best fullback, best forward, the most beautiful goal, the most respectful player of the competition, the captain of the best team, the best reporter covering the competition, and the best fan.

The Association of Foreign Correspondents has a significant experience in organizing competitions among non-professionals. Since 2000, the association has organized various events in Armenia: among foreign missions (Dialogue of Civilizations Cup), among the enterprises of Armenia (Made in Armenia Cup), among banks, accredited in Armenia, students of universities (Lev Yashin Cup); it has also held charity games to raise money for Armenian orphanages. In 2002 and 2009, under the auspices of Armenian and Karabakh Presidents, the Association organized competitions among journalists from the CIS and the Baltic states in Yerevan and Artsakh.
