For about 100 CIS representatives to watch elections in Armenia
96 observers from CIS are accredited for the coming May 12 parliamentarian elections in Armenia. The CIS mission includes 96 observers from "Byelorussia, Kazakhstan, Kirgizia, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, CIS Inter-governmental Assembly, Parliamentary Assembly of the Russia-Byelorussia Union, as well as the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth".
The Executive Committee's statement, which is placed on the web-site of the organization, says that up to the present CIS observers had a number of meetings with representatives of the RA Office of General Prosecutor and Police. They have also examined issues concerning the electoral process itself. "International observers from the Commonwealth point to the huge work done by Armenian Police on providing full and reliable electoral registers. As a positive fact aimed at securing democratic elections, the CIS Mission appreciates Prosecutor General's order to create working groups for coordinating activities of Armenian Prosecutors' Offices. These working groups must efficiently examine violations of the law, connected with parliamentarian elections, as well as reports about violating people's rights to vote. Currently CIS observers hold meetings with party leaders, their campaign headquarters, monitor newspapers and news bulletins of TV companies," the statement says.
