CMCE head's statement on elections in NKR indicates poor notion about core of Karabakh conflict

PanARMENIAN.Net - The statement of Fiorenzo Stolfi, head of the Chairman of Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe one more time indicates on poor notion of European officials, even on such a high level, about the core and process of Karabakh conflict, NKR Foreign Minister Georgi Petrossian stated. "Representatives of various European structures try to cover this very gap by pattern answers, just the case with San Marino Foreign Minister Fiorenzo Stolfi. However, recently the deep-rooted similar pattern approach in international structures to the Nagorno Karabakh problem in the whole and formation of civil society in the Nagorno Karabakh Republic particularly is counterproductive and dangerous. Conformism in front of Azeri whim that European officials more and more often demonstrate may return the Nagorno Karabakh to the past. In this connection I want to remind Fiorenzo Stolfi any efforts to deprive Nagorno Karabakh people of the right to democratic development and strengthening the civil society, are doomed to failure," the NKR FM underlined.

Georgi Petrossian also said in conditions of democracy elections are key institute for displaying political will of people as the source of power. And the coming presidential election in summer will not become an exception. "Presidential elections of NKR in no way influence on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement process and do not predetermine status of Nagorno Karabakh, since the main function of elections is to form the power via democratic mechanisms. The status of NKR was determined by people's will through the December 10 1991 referendum in accordance with international law norms and the national legislation, which was in force at that moment. It is also worth mentioning that we have repeatedly invited representatives of various European structures to visit Nagorno Karabakh and familiarize themselves with the situation on the spot, in order to make it possible to overcome stereotypes and cliches deep-rooted among European officials towards the Nagorno Karabakh," says NKR FM in his statement, the NKR MFA Press Office reports.
