Geneva reception marks 25th anniv. of Armenia’s independence

PanARMENIAN.Net - Prominent French singer of Armenian descent Charles Aznavour who is also Armenia’s ambassador to Switzerland, hosted a reception in Beau Rivage Hotel in Geneva on Monday, October 10 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s independence, the press office of the Armenian foreign ministry reports, according to ARKA.

President of the UN Human Rights Council Choi Kyonglim, Swiss lawmakers and government officials as well as diplomats on mission in Bern, heads of international organizations and representatives of Armenian community in Switzerland attended the event.

Addressing the guests, Aznavour said that over 25 years of independence Armenia’s people not only faced hardships, but also enjoyed achievements and victories.

Although a quarter of a century is not a long period for a nation with a history of 3 thousand years, these 25 years were crucial for the Armenian nation on its way to a firm statehood and in its integration in the global fold of nations, he said.

Aznavour thanked all the friends of Armenian people for support, particularly Switzerland and Geneva-based international organizations.
