Turkey-EU Troika to discuss resumption of talks
Turkey and the European Union Troika will be meeting at the level of Foreign Ministers on June 4 in Ankara. The meeting is raising hopes to open accession negotiations between Turkey and the 27-nation bloc in three chapters or policy areas, Foreign Ministry officials said Friday.

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, whose country is currently holding the rotating term presidency of the bloc, next EU term president Portugal's Foreign Minister Luis Amado and European Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn are expected to participate in the Ankara meeting. The gathering will be the first high-level event between Turkey and the EU after the presidential election victory of Nicolas Sarkozy in France. Sarkozy is a firm opponent of Ankara's membership in the bloc.

Ankara hopes to begin negotiations on three more chapters, namely economic and monetary policy, statistics and financial control, in June. Turkey's Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul will host the EU Troika meeting in Ankara. The intergovernmental conference between Turkey and the EU is expected to take place on June 26, the Turkish Daily News reports.
