ARMENIA AND LATVIA SIGNED JOINT STATEMENT ON COOPERATION IN ISSUES REGARDING HARMONIZATION OF NATIONAL LEGISLATIONS WITH EUROPESeptember 19, 2002 - 19:34 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - In Riga, a joint statement on cooperation of the Armenian National Assembly and the Latvian Seim regarding the issues of the harmonization of the national legislations with the European Union legislation has been signed. According to the statement, the two countries plan their future in the European family as full members of that organization. The parliaments of the two countries assure that the coordination of the national legislations with the European standards is a key precondition for the European union membership. It is noted that the works for coordination of the Armenian legislation with the European one have already been started and this will make for the integration of Armenia into the European legal sphere. The memorandum also stipulates the achievements of Latvia and Armenia in democracy development, in which the parliaments have the key role.
