Situation on Armenia-Azerbaijan border relatively calm

PanARMENIAN.Net - The situation on border between Armenia and Azerbaijan was relatively calm overnight, Defense Ministry spokeswoman Shushan Stepanyan said in a Facebook post on Monday, July 20.

Nine ceasefire violations by Azerbaijan were registered in the reporting period, with the rival using mostly firearms, as well as an AGS-17 automatic grenade launcher. After the Armenian side's retaliatory fire, the Azerbaijani forces were silenced.

The situation on the border between the two countries escalated on July 12, with Azerbaijan launching three unsuccessful infiltration attempts in the next four days. The Azerbaijani military also used large caliber grenade launchers and combat drones to target civilian homes in several border settlements in Armenia. Four servicemen of the Armenian army were killed, while Azerbaijan reported 12 deaths.
