Police detaining demonstrators at opposition protest in Yerevan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Police in Yerevan are detaining participants and organizers of a rally involving more than a dozen political parties on Wednesday, November 11.

Though gatherings are prohibited under martial law in Armenia, the leaders of 17 opposition parties have invited people to rally against an agreement signed by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to end the war in Nagorno-Karabakh.

A large number of police officers are now trying to prevent the demonstrators from approaching the stage at Freedom Square in downtown Yerevan. Law enforcement officers have formed a shield wall as demonstrators are jostling and trying to advance.

Lawmaker Iveta Tonoyan said oligarch Gagik Tsarukyan, the leader of the opposition Prosperous Armenia Party, has been taken to the National Security Service.

Pashinyan and Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev have signed a deal to end the war in Karabakh. Karabakh (Artsakh) President Arayik Harutyunyan said on Tuesday that he has agreed to the deal signed by Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan.
