Armenian MP claims Human Rights Watch report biased

Armenian parliament has passed a bill on introduction of amendments and additions to the RA Penal Code. One of the authors of the bill, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee of state and legal issues David Harutyunyan said the bill was developed upon demand of the international structures to reviews the republic's penal Code.

Armenian parliament has passed amendments to the law On Television and Radio. The amendments forbid religious organizations from sponsoring TV and radio broadcasts. They also suggest that the National TV and Radio Committee should take control over programs and films propagating violence.

People's Party of Armenia will hold an action at Alexander Miasnikyan monument to commemorate the victims of March 1-2, 2008 events. The participants will light candles and lay flowers to the monument.

Eduard Sharmazanov, spokesman for the ruling Republican Party of Armenia claimed that Human Rights Watch report on Armenia is biased. "I agree that our republic experiences a number of problems but the document is one-sided and biased," Sharmazanov said.
