Russian-Armenian cosmonaut could fly into space with Roscosmos

PanARMENIAN.Net - Russian-Armenian cosmonaut Harutyun Kiviryan has been selected as a test candidate for Roscosmos Cosmonaut Team and could fly into space, the aerospace research company has revealed in a statement.

The Interdepartmental Commission (IAC) for the selection of cosmonauts and their appointment to spacecraft and stations crews decided to recommend Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center appoint four people to the positions of test cosmonaut candidates of Roscosmos Cosmonaut Team. The decision came into force on January 27, 2021 following an open contest started in 2019.

Besides Kiviryan, also among the winners of the program are Sergey Irtuganov, Alexander Kolyabin and Sergey Teteryatnikov.

In the near future, they will take general space training course for the next two years. The campaign to select new Cosmonaut Team members had begun on June 3, 2019.

Kiviryan was born on August 23, 1993 in the city of Maikop, Republic of Adygea. In 2015, he graduated from the Baltic State Technical University, was awarded the qualification of engineer specializing in rocket engineering. From 2012 to 2015, the cosmonaut trained at the military department in operation and repair of ship complexes of cruise missiles, upon graduation was awarded the rank of lieutenant. In 2019, he studied at Technical School named after S.P. Korolev, specializing in operating machine tools with program control, after graduation was awarded the qualification ‘Operator of machine tools with program control of the 4th category.’
