China hopes Yerevan, Baku will settle

PanARMENIAN.Net - China hopes that Armenia and Azerbaijan will be able to resolve "contradictions" through negotiations, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lijian Zhao told reporters on Monday, May 24.

"Both Azerbaijan and Armenia are friendly partners of China's," the spokesperson said when asked about Azerbaijan's recent provocations near the Armenian border.

"China sincerely hopes that the two sides will resolve their contradictions and differences through dialogue and consultation, and jointly maintain regional peace and stability and peace of life for the people."

On the morning of May 12, the armed forces of Azerbaijan violated the border of Armenia in the southern province of Syunik, advancing 3.5 kilometers and surrounding Sev Lake, which is situated on the border between the two countries but is predominantly a part of Armenia. On May 13, the Azerbaijani military committed more border violations against Armenia, advancing near Vardenis (Gegharkunik province) and Sisian (Syunik province).
