Aliyev hopes to obtain Armenia's consent for peace treaty

PanARMENIAN.Net - Azeri President Ilham Aliyev hopes that the Armenian authorities will now agree to a peace treaty with Azerbaijan after the snap parliamentary elections held across the country on June 20, Interfax reports.

"The Armenian government ignores our declarations about the start of negotiations on a peace agreement with Armenia. However, it is possible that the pre-election situation did not contribute to such statements," Aliyev said on Friday, June 25, when meeting with the Foreign Ministers of Romania, Austria and Lithuania.

"But now, after the elections are over in Armenia, we hope for a positive response."

Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, Austrian Federal Minister for European and International Affairs Alexander Schallenberg, Michael Siebert, Managing Director for Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia, Regional Cooperation and OSCE at the EEAS, as well as Toivo Klaar, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia have embarked on a regional trip. They are expected in Yerevan on June 25.
