U.S. sees ways to settle Karabakh conflict through OSCE Minsk Group

PanARMENIAN.Net - The United States believes that there are opportunities for a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict through the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship, U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Lynne M. Tracy told reporters on Sunday, April 24, the Public Radio of Armenia reports.

Tracy paid tribute to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocde at Yerevan's Tsitsernakaberd Memorial.

“We are committed to seeking and supporting a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict as a Co-Chair of the Minsk Group as well as our capacity as the United States and a friend and partner of Armenia," Armenpress cited the ambassador as saying.

"And I would just point to the last few months, when Secretary [Antony] Blinken has had multiple phone calls with leaders in the region as we have urged de-escalation of the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh and have encouraged the leaders to be in contact and to seek a peaceful negotiation. And I think you remember that on March 25th we expressed our deep concern about irresponsible troop movements of Azerbaijan and of the need to avoid escalatory measures. And we encourage parties to avoid hostile and threatening language which doesn’t serve the interest of peace."

On April 24, 1915, a large group of Armenian intellectuals was rounded up and assassinated in Constantinople by the Ottoman government. On April 24, 2022, Armenians worldwide are commemorating the 107th anniversary of the Genocide which continued until 1923. Some three dozen countries, hundreds of local government bodies and international organizations have so far recognized the killings of 1.5 million Armenians as Genocide. Turkey denies to this day.
