German politicians call on Azerbaijan to unblock key Karabakh corridor

PanARMENIAN.Net - German politicians have urged Azerbaijan to end the blockade of a key road connecting Nagorno-Karabakh to the rest of the world.

Foreign policy spokesperson of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group Jürgen Hardt has urged Azerbaijan to unblock the road, AraratNews reports.

“Although Azerbaijan claims that it is looking for a diplomatic solution, the conflict does not subside. Obviously, the blockaders are supported by Baku. The Baku government should immediately end the blockade,” RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND) cited Hardt as saying.

Spokesman for the federal executive committee of the Green Party Jürgen Trittin too has demanded that Azerbaijan stop the blockade immediately.

“Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev also needs clear signals from Europe that he should free the Lachin Corridor. Azerbaijan's new role as an important energy supplier for Europe should not lead to a mild reaction from Brussels,” Trittin said.

For eight days now, the key road has been blocked by Azerbaijanis who claim to be environmentalists. Azerbaijan had also deprived the people of Karabakh of gas supplies.”
