Armenia remains “partly free” in Freedom House’s new reports

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia has remained a “partly free” country in the Freedom House’s annual report on the state of freedom in the world.

Freedom House rates people’s access to political rights and civil liberties in 210 countries and territories through its annual Freedom in the World report.

More and more countries have remained Partly Free instead of moving toward full democratization. Still, the world is significantly freer today than it was 50 years ago. In 1973, 44 of 148 countries were rated Free. Today, 84 of 195 countries have earned that status. Many strong democracies that emerged during periods of progress have since withstood serious political, social, and economic pressures.

According to the report, Azerbaijan’s aggression against Armenia has affected the latter’s democratic trajectory.

“Azerbaijani forces continued to attack and occupy Armenian territory along the border, threatening the democratic government in Yerevan and raising the risk of full-scale war,” the report said.
