Karabakh responds to Azerbaijan’s invitation to Baku

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) Foreign Ministry has responded to Azerbaijan’s invitation to Baku for discussions on “reintegration”, maintaining that any meeting can be held only with the mediation of the Russian Peacekeeping Contingent in the same venue as on March 1.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday, March 13 the Armenian side was committed to its position and is ready to discuss humanitarian, infrastructural and technical issues, “without undue politicisation.”

“At the same time, we emphasize that the blocking of the Lachin Corridor and the ongoing humanitarian crisis are unacceptable and do not contribute to the creation of a conducive environment for negotiations. We are convinced that Azerbaijan must properly implement both its obligations under the Trilateral Statement of 9 November 2020 and the Order of the International Court of Justice, refraining from the use or threat of force and unilateral maximalist approaches. Only in that case, favourable conditions can be created for further discussions,” the statement reads.

“As for the political issues of the Azerbaijan-Karabakh conflict settlement, we reiterate that Artsakh is committed to negotiations aimed at a comprehensive settlement of the conflict, which should be held within an agreed and internationally recognised format, with international guarantees for equal rights of the parties and implementation of assumed obligations.”

Since December 12, the sole road connecting Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia - the Lachin Corridor - has been blocked by self-described Azerbaijani environmentalists. Karabakh residents have reported food and fuel shortages, while hospital patients don't have access to essential medicines, with only a handful allowed transfer to facilities in Armenia proper.
