Armenia-Russia consultations held in Yerevan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Consultations between Armenian and Russian Foreign Ministries on the development of bilateral relations and ensuring regional security were held in Yerevan on Tuesday, April 25.

The Armenian delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Ministers Mnatsakan Safaryan and Vahe Gevorgyan, while the Russian delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin.

During the consultations, the parties discussed a number of issues on the Armenian-Russian bilateral agenda. In particular, a confidential exchange of views was held on the further promotion of cooperation between the foreign ministries, the development of trade and economic cooperation between Armenia and Russia, the prospects for promoting Armenian-Russian humanitarian ties, as well as issues of ensuring security in the South Caucasus.

The parties noted the importance and intention to continue the practice of discussing key issues of international relations of mutual interest.

At the end of the talks, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with Galuzin. Given the dangerous situation emerging in the region as a result of provocative statements and aggressive actions of Baku, including the installation of a checkpoint in the corridor in the zone of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, the Armenian Foreign Minister emphasized the need for an unequivocal reaction and effective steps from the allies and partners of Armenia to restore the regime of functioning of the Lachin corridor in accordance with the provisions of the Tripartite Statement of November 9, 2020.

Azerbaijani authorities on Sunday set up a checkpoint on the only road connecting the Karabakh with Armenia. Baku also maintained that they have informed the command of the Russian peacekeepers and the Russian-Turkish monitoring center about the installment of the checkpoint.
