Russia calls on Armenia, Azerbaijan to show restraint

PanARMENIAN.Net - Russia calls on Armenia and Azerbaijan to show restraint, Kremling press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday, February 13, hours after four Armenian troops were killed in cross border fire from Azerbaijan.

When asked whether the signing of a peace treaty is now jeopardized, Peskov said Moscow hopes the process will continue.

“Such incidents do not contribute to the advancement of this process, the negotiation process, or the approaching moment of signing a peace treaty. But we hope that this process will continue,” he said.

“Of course, this is alarming news coming from the contact line. We urge both sides to show restraint and avoid in every possible way other actions that the other side may consider provocative. We will follow [the situation] very carefully.”

The Armenian Defense Ministry reported later in the day that Azerbaijan’s shelling had stopped.
