 European Parliament to discuss repression in Azerbaijan April 19, 2024 - 15:04 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The European Parliament will discuss repression of civil society in Azerbaijan on April 24, according to the Parliament’s schedule. The cases of Dr Gubad Ibadoghlu and Ilhamiz Guliyev will be on the table too. Ibadoghlu was arrested on 23 July 2023 on counterfeiting charges and remains in detention, reportedly with limited access to food and vitally needed medication, subject to humiliating treatment and strict limitations of contacts with his family and lawyer, in violation of his fundamental rights. Guliyev was detained on December 4, 2023, and two days later was arrested for four months on charges of large-scale drug trafficking, JAM News reported. According to human rights defenders, the true reason for Guliyev’s arrest was his interview with Abzas Media, in which he stated that the police use undocumented drugs to falsify criminal cases. Guliyev was presented in the interview as a former police officer. In the past, he had unofficially assisted a police investigator.
