UN adopts resolution condemning Russia, Armenia abstains

PanARMENIAN.Net - The UN General Assembly adopted an anti-Russian resolution addressing the situation in Ukraine. The resolution was supported by 93 countries, opposed by 18, while 65 abstained, according to RIA Novosti.

Armenia was among the countries that abstained.

For the first time, the United States did not co-sponsor the resolution, despite traditionally being one of its key backers. Washington plans to introduce its own resolution.

The document emphasizes the need for de-escalation, the immediate cessation of hostilities, and a peaceful settlement of the war against Ukraine. It calls on Moscow “to immediately, fully, and unconditionally withdraw its troops from Ukrainian territory and to unilaterally cease military operations.”

Ukraine introduced the resolution with the support of 50 co-sponsoring countries.

The U.S. is preparing to present its own resolution at the UN General Assembly regarding the settlement of the Ukraine conflict, according to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He stated that the U.S. will propose a "historic resolution" that all UN members should support to "pave the way for peace." Unlike previous resolutions, this document does not include accusations against Russia. Instead, it expresses sorrow over human losses in the "Russo-Ukrainian conflict" and calls for a swift end to hostilities.
