Iranologist: Pashazadeh’s name linked to more corruption than Aliyev’s![]() June 10, 2025 - 15:34 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Iranologist Artyom Tonoyan wrote on the ‘Caspian Frontiers’ Telegram channel that Allahshukur Pashazadeh, the spiritual leader of the Muslims of the Caucasus, is among the most discredited and publicly rejected figures in Azerbaijan. Tonoyan says that “in relation to corruption in Azerbaijan, Pashazadeh’s name has been mentioned more than that of Ilham Aliyev or his family.” According to Tonoyan, Pashazadeh and his family are deeply entrenched in corrupt practices. “The entire Pashazadeh family—his brother Javanshir, his sons, and sons-in-law—are immersed in corruption. This is the main reason Azerbaijani society despises him and his family.” Reports have surfaced over the years detailing real estate owned by Pashazadeh abroad, including property in the Czech Republic allegedly worth several hundred million U.S. dollars. Tonoyan adds that Pashazadeh’s son allegedly holds a monopoly on the illegal import of alcoholic beverages into Azerbaijan. He also highlights the widespread disgust toward Pashazadeh’s sycophantic behavior toward Ilham Aliyev, which is often caught on video and widely mocked across social media. Tonoyan notes that Pashazadeh is also rejected due to ethnic identity issues. “Azerbaijani Turks or so-called ‘ethnic Azerbaijanis’ do not accept him because he is of Talysh origin, which he confirmed in a 1993 confession video. But the Talysh community also disowns him because he and his brother Javanshir renounced their ethnicity for power, wealth, and status.” Finally, Tonoyan writes that Pashazadeh is not respected among religious communities either: “He holds no authority among Sunni or Shia believers.” Earlier, Pashazadeh had declared that the Armenian Apostolic Church poses a threat to all neighboring states in the region. ![]() ![]() Azerbaijani authorities report that they have already resettled 3,000 people in the Nagorno-Karabakh town of Stepanakert. On June 10, Azerbaijani President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will leave for Turkey on a working visit. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Moscow on April 22 to hold talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. Authorities said a total of 192 Azerbaijani troops were killed and 511 were wounded during Azerbaijan’s offensive. ![]() ![]() Partner news | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
