Pashinyan, Aliyev receive Gernika award![]() April 27, 2026 - 11:01 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The annual Gernika Peace and Reconciliation Prize has been awarded to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for their efforts toward establishing peace between the two countries, Armenia’s embassy in Spain reported. On April 26, Armenia’s ambassador to Spain, Sos Avetisyan, attended the award ceremony in the city of Gernika-Lumo, where the annual Gernika Peace and Reconciliation Prize has been presented since 2005. Avetisyan received the 2026 Gernika Prize on behalf of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Aliyev has already expressed gratitude for the award. In January, it became known that the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan had also been awarded the Zayed Prize for their efforts toward “peace, dialogue, normalization of relations, and conflict resolution” between the two countries. On February 4, Pashinyan and Aliyev jointly attended the award ceremony in Abu Dhabi. The $1 million prize fund was shared between the two leaders. The foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov, have arrived in Washington. The CSTO budget for the current year requires adjustments due to the refusal of Yerevan to pay their share of contributions. Six total incidents have burned 19 old-growth trees.
