Women's box included in 2012 London Olympic Games program

PanARMENIAN.Net - On August 13, IOC Executive Board made a decision to introduce several new events into 2012 London Olympic Games program. The most significant innovation was the inclusion of women's boxing into Olympic Games program.

Women will compete at three weights: flyweight (48 - 51kg), lightweight (56 - 60kg) and middleweight (69 - 75kg), while men will compete at 11 weights, instead of the former 10, but it is still undecided which weigh classes will be excluded from Olympic games program.

Thus, the total number of boxers remains unchanged. Such decision is conditioned by women's boxers' great progress in 2005, when IOC last considered the women's participation issue.

Women boxers' first qualification matches are due in October 2010 in Barbados.

IOC Executive Committee also recommended IOC Committee to include Rugby-7 in Olympic games program.

IOC's final decision concerning women's participation in rugby-7 and gulf will Assembly will be made in Copenhagen in October. At that time, Committee will also declare the capital of 2016 Olympics. Possible candidates are Madrid, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo and Chicago.
