CE MINISTER COMMITTEE HEAD SATISFIED WITH FULFILLING ARMENIA'S OBLIGATIONS

PanARMENIAN.Net - Head of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Foreign Minister of Lithuania Antanas Valionis on the whole is satisfied with fulfillment of the obligations to hold democratic reforms undertaken by the Republic of Armenia while entering CE. As reported by «Arminfo» agency, Valionis told journalists about it himself on the last day of his stay in Yerevan within the framework of the visit to the South Caucasus region. In his words, there are some gaps, too. These in particular include delay of adoption of constitutional reforms. He also pointed out the necessity to pass laws on alternative military service and on mass media, to settle the problem of religious minorities. Concerning the Karabakh problem, the head of CE Committee of Ministers noted the Council of Europe was ready to participate in the conflict settlement within some format in case of necessity. At the same time at the meeting with President Robert Kocharian Valionis stated that the Council of Europe was for settlement of the Karabakh conflict within the framework of OSCE Minsk group. Antanas Valionis also noted Lithuania was ready to contribute to Armenia in the cause of its integration into international organizations. Let us note that the obligations undertaken by Armenia when joining the Council of Europe are united into 4 main packages. They are - passing international conventions, bringing domestic legislation into accord with the international standards, protection of human rights and peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
