Turkey sets conditions before NATO for deployment of missile defense systemNovember 6, 2010 - 16:27 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Turkey will agree to deployment of a missile-defense system on its soil, if its three conditions are accepted. First, the Turkish authorities insist on building NATO, but not American missile defense shield. Second, Ankara also wants the deployment of the shield to cover the territory of all NATO allies. And third, Turkey wouldn't allow itself to become a frontline state for NATO, as it was during the Cold War. Ankara insists that certain countries – Russia, Iran and Syria – should not be mentioned in the documents on deployment of the missile defense shield, as Turkey has been actively cooperating with these countries over recent years. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will present the country's stance on the matter during a meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama on the sidelines of G-20 summit in Seoul, Turkish media reported. The missile defense system creation is scheduled to be discussed during the November 19-20 NATO summit in Lisbon.
