Giorgi Khutsishvili offers to create confederation of Caucasus states

PanARMENIAN.Net - The confrontation between Armenians and Azerbaijanis should be smoothed in the South Caucasus, according to Giorgi Khutsishvili, head of the Tbilisi-based International Center for Conflict Negotiations.

“I think a common legal area, for example a confederation like the European Union could be created. Unrecognized republics could be part of this confederation. With no problems about borders, it could be an ideal solution, as Georgia will never agree to recognize independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia,” he said.

As to recognition of Nagorno Karabakh, the Georgian expert noted that the “situation is more complicated here.”

“Azerbaijan will not accept Karabakh’s independence. Nevertheless, if the sides reach an agreement on the territories around Karabakh, things may get moving,” Khutsishvili said, Deutsche Welle reported.
