U.S. supports Cyprus issue solution that will reunite the island as a bi-zonal federationJanuary 19, 2011 - 18:35 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian policy Philip Gordon is currently on a visit to Cyprus. Gordon is set to meet with Turkish Cypriot President Dervis Eroglu and Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias as well as their advisors. The U.S. State official is set to meet UN Envoy to Cyprus Alexander Downer as well. Gordon is expected to leave from the island on Friday. "We are focused on the situation in Cyprus. We've been engaged since the Obama Administration came to office on this. We've had discussions here in Washington, D.C.. But this was a good time for Assistant Secretary Gordon to see a situation on the ground first hand," Philip Crowley, spokesperson for the State Department told a daily press briefing on Tuesday. "We reiterate our support for their efforts to reach a solution that will reunite the island as a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation," Crowley said.
