Tigran Sargsyan: Armenia should carry out huge amount of work to ensure free competition

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said that Armenia should carry out a huge amount of work to ensure free competition.

There are a range of factors hampering the competitive environment development in the country: tax and customs administration, provision of transparency of business entities’ activity, high level of corruption risks, the public’s attitude to the negative phenomena, which exist in Armenia, as well as Armenia’s geographic location and the current political situation, Sargsyan said during a conference dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC).

According to Sargsyan, the SCPEC will be unable to tackle the problems alone, due to which the country’s government takes measures to provide the SCPEC with additional powers, as well as implements reforms.

The Prime Minister attached importance to the results, which will achieved in reduction of violations of free competition principles, what will allow increasing the public’s trust towards activity of the Commission and government.

March 21-23, Yerevan hosts an international conference dedication to the 10th anniversary of the SCPEC establishment. It brought together heads of antimonopoly bodies from 15 CIS and European countries.
