New York City’s Empire State Building to be lit up in sign of support for Japan

PanARMENIAN.Net - New York City's Empire State Building and other iconic towers around the world will be illuminated white and red at sunset on April 4 in a sign of support for Japan following the devastating March 11 earthquake and tsunami, the building's management company said on April 1.

Joining the 443.2-meter building in lighting up in the colors of Japan's national flag until the early hours of April 5 are Sky Tower in Auckland, New Zealand, Menara KL in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and North Tower in Seoul, South Korea, according to the company.

"On April 4, the Empire State Building tower lights will shine for Japan which is desperately in need of the world's support and financial assistance," AP quoted Anthony Malkin of Empire State Building Co. as saying in a statement.

The Empire State Building has shined its lights white and red in celebration of Japan's victory in the final of the 2009 World Baseball Classic and in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the arrival in the city of Japan's first diplomatic mission to the United States in June 2010, according to breitbart.com.
