UKRAINE SUGGESTS FORMING SECURITY SYSTEM IN THE SOUTHERN CAUCASUS UNDER THE UMBRELLA OF THE OSCE

PanARMENIAN.Net - 22.12.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. "The Ukraine is interested in establishing peace and stability in the Southern Caucasus and supports the idea of regional security system formation", said today the Ukrainian Ambassador to Armenia Alexander Bozhko in the interview to the Armenian "Azg" daily.

The Ukraine is speaking for the formation of such structure under the umbrella of the OSCE, which would exclude the possibility of rivalry between the member-states of the regional security system, the Ambassador said.

Touching upon the perspectives of Karabakh conflict peace settlement, the diplomat said that the Ukraine supports efforts made by the world community in this direction. Moreover, Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma has repeatedly voiced Ukraine's readiness to be an intermediary in the conflict, Bozhko said.

"We are sure that the continuation of the direct dialogue of Presidents Kocharian and Aliyev will help find a mutually acceptable resolution to the Karabakh problem", the Ukrainian Ambassador said. -0-
