Armenian MP: world will recognize Karabakh if Baku starts new war

PanARMENIAN.Net - In case of resumption of hostilities by Baku, the international community will support Armenia’s positions by acknowledging the independence of Nagorno Karabakh, according to a member of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), head of parliamentary standing committee on financial-credit, budgetary and economic affairs Gagik Minasyan.

As he told a press conference in Yerevan, prerequisites for such scenario are comprised in the Deauville statement, which mentions about 'conflicting parties', unlike previous documents.

Besides, Armenia never spoke about concessions and will never denounce its principles on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement, according to Minasyan. “These principles are known: first, Karabakh will never be a part of Azerbaijan, second, Karabakh's security must be guaranteed and third, Karabakh must have a land border with Armenia,” the MP said.

The leaders of the United States, France and Russia called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to move toward a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. "We...are convinced that it is time for the sides in the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh to take a decisive step toward a peaceful resolution (of the conflict). Further delay [in the settlement] would only call into question the commitment of the sides to reach an agreement," said a joint statement by Presidents Barack Obama, Nicolas Sarkozy and Dmitry Medvedev. "We firmly call on the leaders of the sides to prepare their people for peace, not war," the statement said. "We call on the presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia to demonstrate political will and finalize...the basic principles (of a peace agreement) during the forthcoming summit in June."
