Armenian authorities’ improper attitude offending for Artsakh liberation soldiers

PanARMENIAN.Net - Artsakh liberation war soldiers are mortified with the lack of attention from Armenian authorities, Anahit detachment commander said.

“It's outrageous that liberation soldiers are given no privileges in Armenia, while social situation of many of them is below acceptable level,” Anahit Martirosyan told a news conference in Yerevan.

As Artsakh war soldier, Arabo detachment member Ruben Hovhannisyan in turn, stated, over the past 19 years, many soldiers were never awarded well-deserved medals. “Other than AMD 60000 pension, these people enjoy no privileges in Armenia,” he said.

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.
