ANC member: Congress demands snap elections not for taking power

PanARMENIAN.Net - Member of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) Gurgen Yeghiazaryan believes that the ANC demands snap elections with the pure aim of conducting fair elections.

“We want extraordinary election only with one goal: for fair elections and not for the ANC to come to power,” he told reporters on July 8.

In turn, member of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Hamlet Harutyunyan reminded that infringement and falsification during elections in Armenia started yet when the ANC leader, first President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrossian, held the power. “Remember the past and evaluate the present and future,” he said.

In response to this comment, Yeghiazaryan stressed that even if there were mistakes in the past, new authorities must not repeat them, but create new political culture.
