First international symposium of sculpture opens in Shushi

Hakob Gyurjyan first international symposium of sculpture dedicated to Shushi sculptor will take place on July 15-29, in Shushi.

22 Armenian and Italian sculptures, including professors from Florence State University Carolina Giovanelly and Luisa Moroni will participate in Artsakh-hosted event. Professor Gerardo Lo Russo, Rector of Rome Academy of Arts, will be honorable guest of the symposium.

The event organizer, sculptor Vigen Avetis stressed that he did not expect such interest towards the symposium.

“I am very glad that all state bodies assisted to carry out the symposium,” said the sculptor adding that Shushi will be decorated with works of talented sculptors and will become an Open air museum.

“The event aims to raise international image of Artsakh, and I hope next year Karabakh will participate in the event as an independent state,” Avetis noted.

15 sculptors will create compositions from limestone. The choice of material is not accidental; the temple St. Ghazanchetsots is build with limestone.

Results of the symposium will be included into the catalogue in three languages: Armenian, Italian and English. Studio Quagli Italian cinema studio will shoot a documentary film on cultural heritage of Artsakh and Shushi to be screened over Rai 1.
