Armenian government solves Trchkan waterfall problem

PanARMENIAN.Net - At November 3 sitting, Armenian government finally solved the problem of Trchkan waterfall, which will henceforth enjoy special protection regime.

According to Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, the issue, which is in focus of non-governmental organizations and ecologists, should have found a solution. He also noted that the government’s decision is aimed at preventing the use of the waterfall for other purposes.

As Trchkan waterfall is included in Armenia’s natural monuments list, the law "On Specially Protected Natural Areas" bans any kind of activity that threatens its existence.

Armenia’s Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan stated that the construction of small hydropower plant will not endanger the waterfall.

During the October 20 session Minister Harutyunyan suggested Robshin company stop the construction for 10 days and develop proposals that will secure Trchkan’s protection.
