EOC President: plans to stage European Games moving forward

PanARMENIAN.Net - Plans to stage European Games are moving forward, European Olympic Committees president Pat Hickey stated.

"It looks like we are making very good progress," Hickey said shortly before the official opening of the EOC's 40th general assembly in Sochi.

Hickey said he will inform delegates from the 49 NOCs gathered in the 2014 Winter Olympic city that plans are heading in the right direction following positive feedback from 28 European federations after a lengthy period of consultation, Around the Ring reported.

If successful, the Games could either be in addition to individual events such as the European Athletics Championships and European Swimming Championships or possibly even replace them.

Other continents already have their own Games. Later this year the Pan American Games will be held in Mexico, the Pan Arab Games in Qatar and the All-Africa Games in Mozambique. The Asian Games took place last year in China.
