MOSCOW NOT TO ALLOW QUARTERING OF US TROOPS IN AZERBAIJAN, RUSSIAN AMBASSADOR STATED

PanARMENIAN.Net - Russia will not allow the quartering of US troops in Azerbaijan, Russian Ambassador Nikolay Ryabov told journalists in Baku when commenting on the plans for consolidation of the American and Azerbaijani interaction on the guarding the borders of the Azeri sector of the Caspian Sea. In his words, there are "irresponsible politicians" and political scientists who consider that "billeting of a US or any other military base will make Azerbaijan happy". "I'll be certain to say that this line will lead to the detriment of Azerbaijan", - Ryabov said. In his words no military base will solve the Nagorno Karabakh problem. On the contrary, appearance of such a base "will seriously postpone the settlement of the conflict". Besides, the quartering of a foreign military base will not improve Azerbaijan's relations with its neighbors and with Iran and Russia first of all. Ryabov supposes that there is no need for guarding the pipelines by foreign troops. "Even Heydar Aliyev said that we have the possibility ourselves", - the Ambassador reminded. As reported by Regnum information agency, the Ambassador's sharp statement about the inadmissibility of quartering the US troops in Azerbaijan caused spirited debate in the Azeri Milli Mejlis. The parliamentarians accused Ryabov of "penetrating in the internal affairs of the sovereign Azerbaijan". Deputy Siyavush Novruzov spoke with the initiative to declare Ryabov persona non grata. To note, he suggested the same for Norwegian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Steinar Gil several days ago.
