Criminal case against Syunik province governor dropped

PanARMENIAN.Net - Criminal case against Syunik province governor Suren Khachatryan on suspicion of beating up businesswoman Silva Hambardzumyan has been closed.

The case was instigated on November 15, in compliance with article 118 of the RA Criminal Code, stipulating for a fine of 100 minimal salaries or up to 2 months of imprisonment.

According to preliminary investigation, as a result of an argument Khachatryan slapped Hambardzumyan at Armenia Marriott Hotel cafe.

However, Hambardzumyan refusal to undergo forensic exam citing absence of bodily injuries; Khachatryan, in turn, expressed regret over the incident.

On December 12, 2011, a decision was taken to close the case, as it comprises no objective criminal acts under art 118 of Criminal Code, Special Investigation Service of Armenia reported.
