Ronaldo, Zidane & Friends beat Hamburg XI in Match Against Poverty

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Imtech Arena played host to the ninth annual UN Match Against Poverty between a Hamburg XI and a Ronaldo, Zidane & Friends XI that may well have been one of the best teams ever put together in the history of the game.

Ronaldo, Zidane & Friends began the match with the following XI: Fabien Barthez, Michel Salgado, Joan Capdevilla, Fabio Cannavaro, Gheorge Popescu, Claude Makelele, Edgar Davids, Luis Figo, Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Didier Drogba.

On the bench for this “Galactico” side were also Jens Lehmann, Lucas Radebe, Robert Pires and Gheorge Hagi and they prevailed 5-4 in a thriller.

With nine different goal scorers there was plenty to admire in the charity match but two goals stood out as they were scored by two living legends.

After Hamburg went 2-0 up, Ronaldo, Zidane & Friends pulled it back to 2-2 with the original Ronaldo, now looking rather chubby, curling in the equaliser after a 1-2 with Didier Drogba.

Whilst it is fair to say Ronaldo would struggle to get a game for his former clubs these days, a late goal from Luis Figo suggests he could still perform at a high level.

The Portuguese winger rolled out a string of step overs to bamboozle a Hamburg defender before slotting past the keeper for the fifth goal, 101 Great Goals reported.
