EU: Conflicts Bereave Too Much Political Attention and Financial Resources

PanARMENIAN.Net - The basic priority of activities of the EU special representative will be promoting settlement of frozen conflicts in the region. There are expectations that the EU will play an important role after attaining agreements over settlement of conflicts, states EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby, reports Mediamax. In his words, conflicts bereave too much political attention and financial resources, hampering normal development of the region. «We should continue promoting state-building in three countries of the South Caucasus, provide for normal relations between them, promote regional cooperation. Here a wider format is the point,» the Swedish diplomat remarked. Semneby also said that the mandate of the Special Representative is rather large and can touch upon even energy security matters. «Taking into account latest developments there is ground for having a more active role in the question. Undoubtedly, energy security issues are more important today than they were before,» he said. «Besides, cooperation should touch a larger format and not be limited to South Caucasus states,» Semneby believes.
