Safarov to serve his term in a colony of strict regime

PanARMENIAN.Net - The murderer of Armenian officer in Budapest will be moved to a colony of strict regime to serve his life imprisonment, Nazeli Vardanyan, the layer of slain Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan's family told a news conference in Yerevan. She said, when on February 22 Budapest Appeal Court left unchanged the April 13, 2006 verdict of a lower instance towards murderer of Armenian officer Ramil Safarov, the regime of serving punishment will be changed. She noted that if up till now Safarov was in preliminary custody, henceforth he will be moved to a colony of strict regime, where he will serve his life imprisonment.

"With an exclusive lawfulness and objectivity court examined the case, estimated all circumstances and in the result of which pronounced an objective and legal judgement. And taking into account the fact that Safarov was a threat to the society, since he had committed a cruel crime and did not show repentance for it, he will serve his term in a colony of strict regime," N. Vardanyan said. The layer stressed that the Azeri side may file an appeal against the Court of Appeal decision in the Supreme Court if some rough mistakes of judicial and legal character existed in the Appeal Court.

"Taking into account that the process was very short and clear, I think there cannot be any violations, which could become a basis for filing an appeal to the Supreme Court. The Azeri side just doesn't have any chances," N. Vardanyan concluded, making clear that Safarov's layers could turn to the Strasbourg Court of Human Rights, "Novosti Armenia" reports.
